A written history of a church cannot properly chronical what really defines the church-for it is the people united-individuals who have come together to worship, work. and witness.  To accept the cost and joy of discipleship, to be his servants in the service of men and to proclaim the Gospel to all the world

CHURCH HISTORY

On a Thursday evening on th 18th of April, 1861-just four days after the surrender of Fort Sumter which clinched the outbreak of the Civil War-a group of local people joined together as a church body choosing the Congregational tradition.  Our first building was completed in1862.  This building was located on Milwaukee Ave only a few hundred feet from todays building.  The following year a parsonage was built on what is today the center of Giddings Street.  In 1896 a larger building was needed and was buit on the site of the present Church building.  Ground was broken in 1927 for our present building and parsonage and completed in 1929 just as the Great Depression began.
